Sometimes, becoming a casual witness to someone else's conversation, you can hear about rolls. People operate with incomprehensible terms: role, posts, role-playing, rolka. What are RPGs, what are they, and what exactly are these people talking about?

Our first RPGs: from childhood

In fact, we all once played role-playing games, even those who categorically deny involvement in such a frivolous activity. However, all children play, trying on different roles: in a store, in Indians and cowboys, in ninjas, in daughter-mothers, in firefighters and so on. Such a seemingly frivolous activity actually has an important function - the development of the child, the study of social roles.

Age is no barrier

Psychologists say that humanity has become much younger from a psychological point of view. More recently, the so-called age of Christ, 33 years, was considered a kind ofbeyond which old age, infirmity and withering began. Classical literature is full of examples - the old pawnbroker, killed by Raskolnikov's ax, barely celebrated her 42nd birthday. Pushkin called Karamzin an old man of 30 years. Now, at this age, the most interesting things in life are just beginning, and no one is going to look towards the nursing home.

Instead of playing uncharacteristic roles in life, many of our contemporaries decided not to limit themselves. Do you want to be a wonderful elf? Be it! Many people remember the first meetings of the Tolkienists, when groups of young and not so young people gathered in forest clearings and staged theatrical performances for their own pleasure. They got used to the roles according to the precepts of Stanislavsky, made swords from sticks and elven cloaks from curtains, arranging their own Middle-earth in some Rostov region.

Now, in the age of the Internet, there is another opportunity to feel like a different person, or anyone: a wizard, a thief (without a real conflict with the law), an elf or a pirate. This is a roll. What is Internet Role Playing and are there any differences?

Rolk, roleplay or role play?

What exactly are we talking about, about the game on the Internet, in reality, or is it talking about psychological practices? The border is very conditional, the meaning of the words "roll", "role-woo" and "role-play" are related, the first two options are rather slang than separate terms.

Indeed, there is such a psychological practice as a role-playing game. It helps to better understandother people to deal with difficult life situations. Participants try on other people's roles, better understand the motives of actions and desires. But role-playing is often called entertainment, when the participants, conditionally, are going to run through the forest in armor. This is an entertaining live-action role-playing game that can play out a story or a difficult quest.

Rolk is usually called the same action, only on the Internet, and in the vast majority of cases it is a text game. Instead of real running around the ravines and copses, the participants of the game can even fly into space, this does not carry any risks of additional costs, only imagination, inspiration and the ability to write are required. What is rolka and how to play it?

Forum role-playing is a game of a literary nature, where each of the participants is a co-author of a story with an unpredictable plot and ending. To participate in the game, you just need to find a forum with a suitable plot, register, invent a character for yourself, write a questionnaire. The template of the questionnaire with the items that must be filled out is the administration of the game. Usually these are enthusiastic players who decide to create their own world, and the world can be either based on a popular movie or book, or completely authored, with original conditions.

The game post is written according to literary rules. Here is the simplest example:

Edwin entered the tavern,wearily shaking off road dust from the cloak. He was hungry and angry, but the warmth of the hearth and the delicious smells from the kitchen had already humbled his heart. And the innkeeper, seeing the client, immediately rushed to meet him with a mug of beer.

Usually a game post is about fifteen lines, but there are unique ones who write posts of two or three pages. The next player reacts to the post of the previous one with his post, gradually the story acquires details, and this is a pleasure not only for the players, but also for ordinary readers.

If before rollers were entertainment for teenagers, now many roleplayers have grown up, but have not abandoned their original leisure. They continue to write, think through new plot twists. Since participation in the game is anonymous in most cases, you may not even guess how many connoisseurs of forum videos are around.
