Yuri Berg is a well-known domestic politician and public figure. He currently holds the post of governor of the Orenburg region. He has been in this position since 2010.

Biography of the politician

Yuri Berg was born in the small village of Nyrobe in the Perm region. He was born in 1953. His parents were government employees.

When the hero of our article was 8 years old, the family moved to the Orenburg region. The Bergs settled in Orsk - this is the second largest city in the region in terms of industrial importance and population, in which non-ferrous metallurgy, engineering, oil refining, food industry, energy and geological exploration are developing.

Yuri Aleksandrovich Berg graduated from high school in Orsk in 1969. After 9 classes, he went to the nautical school in Astrakhan. The profession of a long-distance sailor has always attracted him with high income in the future and special romance. He received a diploma in maritime navigation.

However, after college, he decided to continue his studies. In 1982 he graduated from the State Pedagogicaluniversity in Orenburg. Already in 2000 he became the owner of a second diploma of higher education at the Orenburg State University. This time as an economist-manager.

Work activity

Yuri Berg began his career in the Orenburgspetsstroy trust as a simple handyman. He entered this enterprise in 1974, when he was 21 years old.

After graduating from the Pedagogical University, the hero of our article worked for nine years as a teacher in one of the schools in Orsk, and in 1985 he became the director of secondary school No. 15. Yuri Berg worked in this position until the early 90s.

After the collapse of the USSR, Berg goes into business. In 1997, he already headed the Orsk-ASKO closed joint-stock company. In the late 90s, he became the general director of the limited liability partnership "Orsk-service LTD", and a little later - the head of the limited liability company "Novotroitsky cement plant". Since 2005, he has been working as Deputy General Director for Regional Development at OrskInterSvyaz Open Joint Stock Company.

Political career

Yuri Berg, whose biography is today connected with politics, went to the authorities when he was still the director of a school in Orsk. In 1990, he was invited to the post of deputy head of the city administration. In this position, he oversaw the block of social issues.

In the mid-90s was included in the reserve of the federal executive authorities. In 1997, he took the post of Deputy Director of the Tax Police Assistance Fund for the Orenburg Region.

In 2005, he won the election of the head of Orsk, and in 2010, by presidential decree, he was appointed governor of the Orenburg region.

Second term

In 2014, Governor Yuri Berg decided to run for a second term. To do this, he went through a standard procedure. In May, he submitted an early resignation, which was accepted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was done so that the candidate could officially take part in the elections.

Besides Berg, four other candidates took part. And among them there was not a single representative of parliamentary parties. The competition was Galina Shirokova from the Russian Pensioners Party, Abdrakhman Sagritdinov from the Russian Veterans Party, Tatiana Titova from the Civic Platform and Alexander Mitin from the HONEST (Human. Justice. Responsibility) party.

It is not surprising that with such rivals, Yuri Berg confidently became the governor of the Orenburg region for the second time.

At the same time, a fairly high turnout was noted in the region, about 44%. According to the election results, more than 80% of voters cast their votes for Berg (this is more than half a million residents of the Orenburg region). The second was Alexander Mitin, who received more than 7%, in third place was Tatyana Titova with a score of 4.5%. About 3.5% of voters voted for Abdrakhman Sagritdinov, and forGalina Shirokova - about 2.5%.

September 26, 2014, Berg officially took office.

Like all Russian officials, Governor Yuri Alexandrovich Berg annually declares his income. At the end of 2016, the head of the Orenburg region earned almost four million rubles. He has two land plots in individual and common shared ownership, as well as a residential building with an area of 138 square meters.

The youngest son, Alexander Yuryevich Berg, has been the general director of the Novotroitsk Roofing Materials Plant TechIzol since 2008. At the same time, he owns this company.

Many scandalous situations are connected with the activities of the head of the Orenburg region. One of the most high-profile incidents occurred after Berg's wife acquired a land plot for an amount ten thousand times lower than its official cadastral value. The local newspaper "Yaik" made a revealing material about this. However, the entire circulation of the issue, in which the journalistic investigation was printed, was bought by an unknown person. Therefore, this story did not immediately receive public outcry.

Many considered Berg's candidacy as the head of the Orenburg region to be pure coincidence. Allegedly, it was actively promoted and lobbied by Viktor Chernomyrdin, who at that time served as Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. Therefore, for many analysts, the fact that Berg managed to stay at the head of the region and win the elections came as a surprise.
