The amusement park "City Garden" has a long and interesting history. In 1883, local authorities decided to create a public garden in Tomsk. A site was chosen for it on Novo-Sobornaya Square, along Elanskaya Street (now Sovetskaya), between Lutheransky and Drozdovsky (now Sportivny) lanes.

In 1884, a thousand rubles were allocated for this purpose. The money was spent on planting a spruce forest, which marked the boundaries of the future garden. Two years later, in 1886, the vowels of the Duma, N. P. Goldobin, G. K. Tyumentsev, and A. F. Gilles, were entrusted with organizing the park. They invited an outstanding scientist, the creator of the Siberian Botanical Garden Porfiry Krylov.

To equip the "City Garden" (Tomsk), Krylov brought 682 specimens of subtropical, tropical crops and set about creating a living herbarium, a nursery of medicinal plants, a collection of tree species. A park was laid out near the main building of the university, which is now calledUniversity grove. In 1891 the garden was surrounded by an iron fence. It was made in the workshops of Patrushev.

Further development

By 1895, the "City Garden", which Tomsk can be proud of, begins to play an important role in the life of the settlement. It is kept perfectly clean and tidy. Local residents walk here with pleasure: trade clerks, artisans, young ladies-gymnasium students, etc. On certain days, an orchestra played in the garden, holidays and festivities were held in it.

"City Garden" (Tomsk) received attractions already in 1900. These were the first simple designs for games and sports activities. Seven years later, in 1907, the fountain adorned the City Garden: Tomsk was delighted with this idea. The bowl for the reservoir was made by the Moscow company Bromley Brothers. She was well known in these places, since it was she who built the water supply system in Tomsk. The mosaic fountain in the park was amazing. He was recognized as the most beautiful in the city.

Very little is known about the period of the park's history after 1917 and before 1946. The photographs are almost non-existent. An active return to public life took place in early June 1946. It was the opening of the summer season in the garden. The poster of the holiday informed the townspeople about mass dances and games, learning popular songs accompanied by the button accordion, and the performance of the choir of the vocational school. In July, the first symphony evening was held in the park, followed by a masquerade ball and a torchlight procession. Here the townspeople sawthe first performances of the puppet theater. After the war, the park became a popular venue for French wrestling matches.

In 1947, the "City Garden" (Tomsk) was significantly expanded. For this, Krylov Street was blocked. A little later, the territory from Herzen to Lutheran Lane was added to the park. At the same time, the construction of a stone arch with cash desks at the entrance and columns began. The stage was restored in the summer theater and dressing rooms were built. The former billiard room has become a reading room and a branch of the House of Pioneers.

Park today

The "City Garden" is still very popular among the locals today. Most of it is occupied by a deciduous grove. There is a small artificial lake in the garden, a nice wooden town for children with a picket fence and turrets. In winter, ice towns with slides and snow figures are arranged here, a skating rink is flooded, and skates are rented out. In the park, you can have a good time in year-round cafes: "Tomichka", "Park-cafe", "Nebosvod". In the warm season, guests are invited to drink coffee and enjoy ice cream in two special summer establishments. Open concerts are held at the garden's concert stage, and a brass band plays beautiful w altzes by the fountain.
