Big camaras met, of course, everyone. If such a “helicopter” flies into the house, many are frightened, considering them very dangerous, although of all types of insects these are the most harmless. So who are these monsters?
The largest camar on the planet is the kamaror, or centipede mosquito. It is found in forests with high humidity. Feels equally great both in temperate climates and in North Africa. Karamor itself is essentially harmless, since it does not bite either animals or humans. Mostly we see males that feed on nectar. But its larvae, eating plant foods, can cause serious damage to crops.
The big kamar - caramor - is not so gigantic in size. Its body length is from 2 mm to 6 cm, there are specimens reaching 10 cm. But due to the fact that this insect has unusually long legs, it seems that it is much larger.
Another big kamar is a twitch. It got its name from the fact that it often twitches its front legs.
People even breed this insect, or rather, its larvae - bloodworms that go tofood for aquarium fish. In nature, a large twitching camar lays its eggs in wetlands, where, burrowing into the silt, they develop, turning into larvae. If you collect water and soil from the bottom of a stagnant lake, then drain and rinse, you can always find a certain amount of bloodworms. It is fed not only to domestic fish, but also to the inhabitants of reservoirs.
The twitch mosquito lays its eggs in a special translucent jelly-like cocoon. In shape, it can be different: round, oblong, long, like a cord. It depends on where the female is going to attach it so that it is not washed away by the current, and the larvae can get to the bottom and have time to burrow before they become food for the fish. The larva emerging from the egg is colorless, greenish and reddish in color, it acquires as it grows, after molting.
The bloodworm is adapted to life in the water. He can swim by wriggling his whole body like a snake. The process of respiration occurs in two ways. It has a gill-like respiratory organ located in the tail part of the body, it breathes with it when it turns into a chrysalis, in addition, it is able to absorb air from the entire surface. The larva is red in color due to the fact that hemoglobin is part of the blood.
Despite its apparent primitiveness, the bloodworm is a very interesting creature. He lives and develops at the bottom of the lakes, but he moves for a reason, but in special tubes, which he himself builds from silt, grains of sand and pebbles, connecting them with saliva. The larva sits in a tube, periodically protruding its “head”, that part of the body where it is located.mouth, digs and searches for nutritious particles. All this is a way to live to the state of an adult. If you do not take precautions, you can become easy prey for the inhabitants of the lake.
The bloodworm makes a chrysalis in the same place, in a tube, exposing out a kind of gills that absorb oxygen. And a large twitch comes to the surface with the help of air. The process resembles the ascent of a bathyscaphe, the chrysalis rushes up, under pressure it collapses, and the twitch, spreading its wings, takes off.
