Linda is one of the tributaries of the legendary Volga. This is a river with an unusual and beautiful name, rich in ichthyofauna and incredibly picturesque banks. Linda is a beautiful flat river that carries its waters to the Volga. Geographically, its drainage basin is located in the central part of the East European Plain, territorially - in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Linda is not a very long river. The total length of the watercourse is 122 kilometers, and the width varies from 7 to 12 meters. The area of the river basin is about 1600 sq. km.

Once this river was actively used for timber rafting. Today it performs primarily a recreational function. The Linda River is a popular object of water tourism. Along its channel, kayaks, boats and kayaks are rafted. In summer, a huge number of Nizhny Novgorod residents rest on the banks of the Linda.

Origin of the name of the river

According to the most popular version, the name of the river comes from the Mari word "Ilemde", which translates as "uninhabited", "uninhabited". It is worth noting that the shores of Linda were indeed free from permanent human settlements for a long time. Another version connects this hydronym with the ancient German word lindan - "valley", "hollow".

It's hard to call the Lindu River uninhabited these days. On its banks there are a number of holiday villages and settlements. The largest of them are the village of Zheleznodorozhny, the village of the same name Linda, the villages of Rekshino and Kantaurovo.

The Linda River is a classic example of a flat watercourse with a slight slope and a calm flow. It flows through the territory of two administrative districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region - Semenovsky and Borsky.

The source of Linda is located in the tract Shchadrov Dol, 3.5 kilometers from the village of Trefelikha. The exact coordinates of this place: 56° 52' 50.81" North latitude, 44° 08' 31.34" East longitude (see map).

The mouth of the watercourse is located opposite Sormovo, one of the microdistricts of Nizhny Novgorod. The Linda River flows into the Volga, forming a small sandy delta. The Linda channel in the mouth part meanders very strongly (see satellite image below).

Several dozens of other streams flow into Linda. Its largest tributaries:

  • Iftenka;
  • Sanda;
  • Porzhma;
  • Alsma;
  • Keza.

Exploring the valley, flora and fauna

Most of the river valley lies in the middle of dense woodland. Therefore, Linda is considered a forest river. The water in the river is always clean and cool due to the numerous spring tributaries. The bottom of the Linda is predominantly sandy, sometimes with admixtures of silt. The shores are quite steep and steep in places. The average depth of the channel is one and a half meters.

The Linda Valley is quite wide (1.5-2.5 km) and well-defined on the ground. The floodplain, on the other hand, is narrow. Only in the lower reaches of the river does it reach a width of 800-1000 meters. Linda feeds mainly on rain and groundwater. According to its chemical composition, the water in the river is hydrocarbonate, slightly acidic. The hardness is small, the mineralization is weak.

Water and coastal vegetation is represented mainly by pondweed, vallisneria and elodea. In the upper and middle reaches, plants such as marigold and zhyrushnik are found. Sedge is ubiquitous.

The Linda River is famous for its rich fish fauna (13 species). In the spring period of the year, in the lower reaches, you can find another 25 species of fish swimming here from the Volga. About 30 species of mollusks and other representatives of zoobenthos were found in the bottom sediments of the river. In the waters of the Linda and some of its tributaries, two species of animals listed in the Red Book also live - this is the Russian quicksand and the brook lamprey.

Features of fishing on Linda

Despite significantanthropogenic development of the river basin, it still retains good conditions for the development and active reproduction of the ichthyofauna. The most common fish species in Linda are roach, dace, bleak, perch, pike and gudgeon. Fish productivity rates range from 5 kg/ha in the upper reaches to 15 kg/ha in the lower and middle reaches.

The most fishy places on Linda are in the lower reaches of the river. This is the so-called Lindovsky pit and the surroundings of the village of Rekshino. Pike, ide, perch, roach, burbot, dace and other types of fish are perfectly caught here.

The estuarine section of Linda is characterized by steep banks and numerous blockages of dry trees. There are not many approaches to the shore, so in the warm season, many people practice fishing from inflatable boats here. Fishing on bottom gear can be quite successful. Around the first half of May, large flocks of roach rise to spawn in Lindu, all fishermen strive to catch this moment.

Under the dense branches of trees hanging from the shore, you can catch ide or chub, perch and dace are well caught in shallow sandy areas. In deep sections of the river, littered with snags, there is a chance to catch a large pike weighing up to 1-1.5 kg.
