Katyusha, whose monument can be seen in many cities, is the unofficial name of the barrelless BM-13 field rocket artillery systems, which made a significant contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. There are several versions of the appearance of such a name. The first is connected with the popularity of the song by Matusovsky and Blanter about the girl Katyusha. The second version says that the name came from the rangers, who called the BM-13 installation “Kostikovskaya automatic thermal”, abbreviated as CAT. It's not far from Katyusha.
Monuments to the installation can be found in many cities. In some, it was made, in others, Katyusha helped to win the battles with the Nazis.
In the Rostov region
The monument "Katyusha" in the Rostov region is located on the farm Dudukalov. Installed in 1991 in honor of the mortarmen who liberated it from the Nazis in 1943.
A three-meter sample of artillery equipment, which was used in 1943, is mounted on a pedestal. The monument is made of gypsum concrete and metal.
In the Chelyabinsk region
In the Chelyabinsk region, a monumentKatyusha was built in 1975. Few people then knew that this legendary artillery mount was produced in Chelyabinsk during the Great Patriotic War. Its production was classified. Finished covered cars were sent at night.
The idea of installing a monument to Katyusha belongs to the honorary member of the city of Chelyabinsk, architect Yevgeny Alexandrov. Workers of the plant collected funds for the monument by holding subbotniks. And on the anniversary of the thirtieth anniversary of the Victory over the Nazis, the Katyusha appeared at the Palace of Culture of the road machinery plant.
Aleksandrov not only proposed the idea of creating a monument, but also brought it to life. Together with the Honored Artist of the RSFSR Vitaly Zaikov, a rocket launcher with shells was recreated. This required a special design of the pedestal.
In Volgograd
The monument to the rocket launcher in the Volgograd region is located near the Volgograd - Elista highway. Katyusha played a big role in the battle of Stalingrad (the former name of Volgograd). The initiators of the erection of the monument were Ogureev and Gorbunov, who served in the division in the village of Tsatsa.
The decision to install the monument was made at a meeting of veterans in 1977 and timed to coincide with the 32nd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
A real combat vehicle is installed on the pedestal, which was restored at the engine factory. And from it to the place of installation, the Katyusha drove on its own. The participants of the Battle of Stalingrad accompanied the car to the pedestal.
Monument "Katyusha" is annually a pointcollection of rallies of memory, Watch of memory and the All-Russian motor rally.
In the Smolensk region
The architect of the monument was A. A. Vasilyeva. It was installed in the Rudyansky district of the Smolensk region in 1968. It was here that the second salvo of this formidable weapon was fired. Then the issue of mass production of the Katyusha installation was only being decided.
The monument was restored in 2000. Since installation, the metal has rusted. For restoration, the monument was transported to the company ZAO Avtoservis. During the procedure, a tragedy nearly occurred. While working with shells, one of them smoked. But no one was hurt. The workers stopped all work and called the Ministry of Emergency Situations. After the arrival, the specialists neutralized sixteen shells. In fact, there were no live charges in the installation, but there was some explosive left. Which, however, would be enough for a serious incident.
Katyusha Monument on the Road of Life
Memorial "Katyusha" is included in the "Green Belt of Glory" in St. Petersburg. Erected near the village of Kornevo in 1966. In this place, from 1941 to 1943, there were anti-aircraft units that covered the Road of Life.
The architects of the memorial were L. V. Chulkevich, P. I. Melnikov, A. D. Levenkov. Engineers - L. V. Izyurov, G. P. Ivanov.
The artillery mount memorial consists of five steel beams. Their length is 14 meters. The beams are installed on a concrete base at a slight angle. The memorial consists of five steelbeams 14 meters long.
In Penza
The Katyusha monument in Penza is installed at the corner of Bauman and Sverdlov streets, near the Pezmash plant. The opening of the monument took place in November 1982.
During the Great Patriotic War, a machine-building enterprise was established on the territory of a former biscuit factory.
Initially, the monument was located near the local history museum, but after that it was decided to move it to the Penzmash plant, because it was here that Katyusha artillery mounts were made.
In Krasnodar
The monument to Katyusha in Krasnodar was erected during perestroika. In 1985, the artillery mount was restored and installed in one of the districts of the city. The pedestal on which the car stands is four meters high. The Katyusha monument is located at the intersection of Rostov highway and Russian street. The monument was erected in honor of the artillerymen who defended the Kuban from the Nazis.
