This large-scale sports facility has long been well known to rowing enthusiasts in our country. In the distant Soviet times, it was the most technically equipped waterway in Europe.
The rowing canal in Krylatskoye was built in 1973, and its opening was timed to coincide with the European Rowing Championship. Rowing competitions were held on this channel during the 1980 Olympics.
Re-equipment of the channel
For a sports facility of this level, forty years is not an age. Naturally, subject to regular updating of its material and technical base. But, unfortunately, in the 90s, when the USSR collapsed, the channel was not financed, and the structure gradually began to collapse.
In the period from 2008 to 2011, the rowing distance of the canal was re-equipped: new start and timing systems were purchased, modern referee catamarans worth seventy million rubles. The changes made it possible to hold the European and World Championships among juniors in rowing at the highest level. But this was not enough to host the 2012 World Cup and the 2014 World Championship, so Moscow's leadership wasa decision was made to continue developing the Krylatskoye rowing canal.
It was decided to carry out the work gradually. The first stage was carried out in very difficult conditions: in winter, when the frost reached 30 оС, the builders had to carry out monolithic work. At such low temperatures, it was very difficult, but the builders managed to complete the tasks on time.
The landscaped area after the first stage was about 40,000 m22. For the first time in the world, a monorail video filming, which is also called a "running camera", was mounted in Krylatskoye. It follows the athletes at a speed of 60 km / h and transmits a very accurate and high-quality image to a large scoreboard located opposite the spectator stands. The monorail, whose length is 250 m, also successfully serves the finish line.
The rowing canal "Krylatskoye" is a unique object. The most comfortable conditions for athletes and the judiciary have been created here. The channel has the most modern finish tower to date.
Further work continued in December 2013. A four-storey dormitory was built: during the preparation and holding of the competition, 100 athletes can comfortably accommodate 100 athletes in 84 rooms. The building has a conference room, a buffet and all the necessary functional premises.
The revival of the famous building
After a major reconstruction in August 2014, the Rowing Canal inKrylatsky for the first time after the Olympics-80 will host the World Championship in kayaking and canoeing.
From 1994 to 2009, the Rowing Canal in Krylatskoye was a municipal enterprise that did not receive financial subsidies from the city budget in the required amount and profit from its activities. Taking into account the interests of the city and Russian sports, in 2009 it was decided to transfer it to the Moskomsport system.
Reconstruction of this sports facility was completed in July 2014, and today it is fully prepared for the World Championship, which starts in August 2014.
Rowing Canal: Nizhny Novgorod
This artificial canal stretches for 4 km along the Volga coast. It is located between the Grebnevsky Sands island and the coast. There are no competitions on this channel. Nizhny Novgorod uses the rowing canal only for training athletes. In addition, there is a children's sports section that trains young rowers.
The beach near this canal is one of the most popular and visited places in Nizhny Novgorod. It is divided into recreation areas by buoys. There is an area for the youngest children, and even a playground for toddlers.
Rowing Canal: Rostov-on-Don
Surprisingly, this unique building appeared in the city quite by accident. During the construction of the bridge and the road in 1968, sand was mined here. The quarry quickly filled with groundwater, and it began to be used for training athletes. This is how the Rowing Canal appeared. Rostov actively hosts here the participants of the All-Russian competition "Don Regatta".Later, at the request of the athletes, the rowing canal was extended to two kilometers. It is carefully looked after, the bottom is cleaned and strengthened annually, and the quality of the water is monitored. Rostov athletes hope that this unexpected gift of nature will serve them for many years.
Rostovites love to walk here and do other sports. Bicycle and jogging paths stretch along the canal, where adults and children run, rollerblade and bike, or just walk through very picturesque places. Despite the fact that the canal is actually located within the city, the air here is very fresh and clean, as if far away from the city. This place is also loved by fishermen, because here you can catch pike, carp, silver carp, carp.
